Gobinda Chowdhury, BSc. (Hons), MSc, PhD (Jadavpur), PhD (Sheffield), FCLIP, is a Professor of Information Science and Head of the iSchool at Northumbria University in Newcastle, England. Prior to joining Northumbria University, he was a Professor and Director of the Centre for Information & Knowledge Management at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia. Professor Chowdhury is the Chair of the European iSchools, and a member of the iSchool Executive Committee. Over the past 25 or so years, Professor Chowdhury has actively researched in different areas of information organization and access, digital libraries and information users and usability.
His current research interests include sustainability of digital information systems and services that cuts across a number of core information science research areas like information interactions, usability and user-centred design, data analytics, information and data literacy, and so on. Professor chowdhury has written or edited 15 books and over 150 research papers.
He is also actively involved in editorial activities and serves on the board of several leading information science journals and conferences. Professor Chowdhury has chaired two international conferences, and has given keynote addresses and invited talks at several other conferences. He is the co-chair of the organising committee of the iConference2018.
